And our Pinay bet, Thia Megia, said goodbye to us. She was voted out during last night's results show along with Naima Adedapo.

During performance night, Elton John Week, Thia sang "Danielle." I liked the performance. It was soft and soothing. But Thia's understated style just got buried in a stable of divas and shriekers on this season of American Idol.

I wished Thia waited a year or two before joining. By that time, she would have fallen in love, gotten heartbroken, got angsty as is typical of teenagers. Thia would have grown into herself more and would have shown in in the way she connects with every song she sings.

Oh well, there's always Disney for our Thia.

Sadness that this would be my final blog post for American Idol 10 -- unless:

Randy Jackson finally makes sense.
Steven Tyler finally gives a helpful critique. "Beautiful" is getting tired.
Casey Abrams finally pukes blood.
Scotty McCreery finally sings a song other than a country one.
Lauren Alaina is finally reveled as actually a 45-year-old single mother of 3
Jacob Lusk finally transforms into a diva
Paul McDonald finally stops whispering during his performance. Sing, dangit!
And the rest finally ceases to be "meh"

Until then, I'm out for the entire season.

Our Pinay bet, Thia Megia, hit the seal but was safe.

For Motown week, Thia went uptempo with "Heatwave.' Though she flubbed some lyrics, the performance was still okay. I got my wish for a slightly faster song but for you for me Thia did not connect with the song. Thia waved her hands, brought her arms up and swayed here and there but it still felt like Thia was just singing a song. This was this week's performance issue for me.

Thia is safe and made it to the Top 11 tour, which is good coz it's more exposure and more opportunities for growth for our girl Thia.

This week's results show was bizarre but entertaining, very entertaining. Crash course on ear monitors with Marc Anthony, Stevie Wonder singing Happy B-day to Steven Tyler, Hulk Hogan and James Durbin's reaction (priceless!), and Casey Abrams being the lowest vote getter, getting interrupted by the judges mid-song, and then being saved. I mean, the 'save' being used at Top 11!

I thought we are going to see a first on television- Casey puking out blood on Ryan's Seacrest shoes (we know Casey's stomach problems) or Casey dying right in front of millions of viewers.

So onto next week!

And our Pinay bet Thia Megia lives to sing another week-hopefully not another ballad.

Karen Rodriguez went home despite pleading to be saved and promising America everything. I won't miss Karen as I've had enough of Selena and Jlo songs. She's a good singer but not memorable and doesn't bring anything new to the table.

Our girl Thia sang "Colors of the Wind," the theme from the Disney movie "Pocahontas." On results night Thia brought the "Pocahontas hair" out.

This week another pitch perfect performance and another boring ballad from Thia. I fear our girl Thia is out soon if she doesn't step up and sing something out of her comfort zone for a change.

Noticed that the girls are being slayed on by one? No bottom ranking for any of the guys that sucked this week, namely Casey, Paul and Jacob. I hope Jacob is not long for this competition. It's getting tiring in the ears hearing him sing like he's in church every time. I mean, Alone? Pitchy and screamy.

And Thia Megia is safe! I didn't watch the live results night because I was riveted on CNN and NHK watching the aftermath of that 8.9 magnitude and subsequent tsunami that ripped through in Sendai. Watching the deluge of ocean water rip everything in its watch is more riveting. Reality TV what?!

Anyways, no protest from me over the bottom 3 and the right person, Ashthon (with the extra h), went home.

Wannabe diva Ashthon was pitchy in places sharp in some and flat overall during the top 13 performances. I was thinking while she was singing Diana Ross's "When You Tell Me That You Love Me" was "I'd rather listen to cats in heats."

Thia singing "Smile" by Michael Jackson was beautiful in the beginning and then I got afraid for her in the second half. I thought she was going to get hosed by the judges because that jazzy beat was meh. She struggled in that second half - and she didn't know who Charlie Chaplin was.

Our girl Thia cried backstage coz the judges did not like the arrangement of the song 100%. Thia's 15 but she needs to grow a backbone and learn to accept the criticisms as part of improving her craft. That's all I'm saying. Thia is not ready for this, I feel like. If she can't do this, then she has no place in cut-throat competitions like American Idol.

American Idol 10 Semifinals and Wild Card Results are in!

Thia Megia is in. Sadly (not!) Clint Jun Gamboa and his stupid eyeglasses are out!

For a minute there I thought Junebug is going to lose it. Dude was hyperventilating so much I felt bad for him, for a while. Then I smiled because I realized I will no longer hear Junebug shout at me every week.

Junebug did not even get picked for the wild card. Which means you're not all that Junebug. Awww..

As for Thia, we got a little emotion out of her tonight as we saw tears running down one eye. Doesn't get more cinematic than that.

Now I want you to buy a personality, i.e. likability, so you'll get far in the competition and I will not be stopping my American Idol Pinoy Bet update the week after next. K? Thanks!

American Idol 10: Pinoy Bets - Thia Megia and Clint Jun Gamboa

Thia Megia sang "Out Here On My Own" by Irene Cara. Nailed it. It was brave singing A cappella at the beginning of the song. Pitch perfect. My only critic is she has too connect with the song emotionally so she does not appear robotic. Develop a personality too especially when being interviewed by Ryan Seacrest. Overall, I like the performance.



Clint Jun Gambao sang Stevie Wonder's Superstition. Clint Jun can hit those notes but he's too shouty for me. Pre-hate on Clint Jun because of the Jacee ouster brouhaha during Group week. Jun also bugs the crap of me with his seemingly owlish eyes behind those ridiculous eyeglasses. Don't care if Jun bug does not make it to the top 10.
