Breaking News: Gretchen Barreto Undergoes Surgery for Appendicitis

Gretchen Barreto underwent surgery for appendicitis after complaining of severe stomach pain, according to SNN (Showbiz News Ngayon). The singer-actress complained of pain right after coming home from Singapore.

An MRI revealed the inflamed appendix. I don't know if Gretchen is so delusional that she thought she can stop her appendix from bursting because she asked the doctors to postpone the surgery to be able to celebrate Father's Day with her partner Tony Boy Cojuangco and daughter Dominique.

I guess even a self-confessed goddess of beauty like Gretchen can't stop pesky medical emergencies like appendicitis from happening. She tried to bargain for postponement but eventually it dawned on her that her delusions have no control over her body. HAHAHA

At first I thought the medical emergency was her silicon-enhanced lips ruptured. Heh. Oh, well. Maybe next time.

In other Gretchen Barreto news, she and erstwhile friend Nadia Montenegro have kissed and made up at the wake of famed talent manager Douglas Quijano. It was Nadia who made the first move, saying she felt it was the right time. I agree. There are so many people and witness there. Even cameras and reporters are following the star-studded wake. Where else is the perfect place to reconcile?

It was also in the same wake that mother and daughter Anabelle Rama and Ruffa Gutierrez took the first step towards their reconciliation. It was Ruffa who approached her moneyger. Kailangan ng magkabati ni Ruffa at Anabelle kasi baka marami pang ibulgar ang matabil nyang nanay tungkol sa kanya.

Speaking of Gretchen. Bong Revilla was also interviewed on SNN to promote an ABS-CBN project titled "Agimat," which originally starred the Revilla patriarch Ramon Revilla Sr.

The project will be headlined by Jake Cuenca, Gerald Anderson, Coco Martin and Bong Revilla's son, Jolo Revilla. Bong's reminder to his son? "Huwag mong pahiyain ang Revilla clan sa akting mo."

Pacquiao Is No 57 On Forbes’ Celebrity 100 list For 2009

Manny Pacquiao’s reputation and achievements beyond the sport of boxing continue to soar as the Filipino ring icon made it to this year’s Forbes Celebrity 100, an annual listing of the most powerful celebrities in the world.

Pacquiao was ranked 57th in the prestigious roster for 2009 topped by popular and influential actress Angelina Jolie, who dethroned media maven Oprah Winfrey as No. 1.

The Celebrity 100 ranks film and television actors, models, chefs, athletes, authors, and musicians based on a measure of entertainment-related earnings and media visibility (exposure in print, television, radio and online), according to Forbes.com.

The only Filipino and boxer in the roster, Pacquiao was listed with $40M in earnings and ranked 36th in terms of pay, 55th in web, 59th in press and 80th in TV and radio exposure.

Forbes has recognized Pacquiao’s megafights with Oscar De La Hoya and Ricky Hatton, his immense popularity, and influence as an endorser as well as political plans.

“Widely regarded at the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world, Pacquiao had two blockbuster fights in the past year: He took on Oscar De La Hoya in December and Ricky Hatton in May. Pac-Man is a huge celebrity in his home of the Philippines and plans to run for political office there once his days in the ring are over. Counts Nike and beer maker San Miguel among his sponsors," Forbes stated in its write-up for Pacquiao.

Among the athletes, Pacquiao was the 10th most powerful, outranked only by golf superstar Tiger Woods (5th overall), NBA great Kobe Bryant (10th), basketball legend Michael Jordan (18th) NBA MVP LeBron James (19th), tennis champ Roger Federer (27th), football star David Beckham (28th), golfer Phil Mickelson (36th), F1 driver Kimi Raikkonen (52nd) and football star Ronaldhino (55th).

The Filipino ring icon outranked other sports greats, such as cager Kevin Garnett (62nd), baseball icon Derek Jeter (66th), and tennis aces Serena Williams (67th), Maria Sharapova (76th), Venus Williams (77th) and Ana Ivanovic (90th).

Pacquiao’s entry to the Forbes’ Celebrity 100 list further cements the status of the 30-year-old pride of General Santos City as a powerful personality outside boxing. Recently, Pacquiao was named to the TIME 100 list of Most Influential People, ranking him 22nd overall among personalities from politics and public service, business, entertainment, sports, science, technology, and the arts.

For his influence encompassing sports, Pacquiao has also been named ambassador of peace and understanding by President Arroyo.

Yeng Constantino Reacts on Carlo Gueverra and Daiana Menezes Relationship

Yeng Constantino, the first ever winner of ABS-CBN's Pinoy Dream Academy, was asked on SNN (Showbiz News Ngayon) about her reaction and feelings now that former suitor Carlo Guevarra is dating Daiana Menezes.

Carlo Gueverra played the love interest of Ogie Alcasid's character in Desperadas II. Daiana Menezes as we all know is an Eat Bulaga girl.

Yeng and Carlo went out a few times, and Carlo even gifted Yeng this super duper big teddy bear. Without warning the guy stopped texting and calling and the next thing the girl knew the guy is dating the Brazilian model.

Yeng's reaction was something to the effect of "Ang deserving na lalaki makakapag-hintay" and "she's sad of the outcome of her love affair that never was but she's glad na it turned out she was right in not formally accepting the guy."

After the video clip, Kris Aquino commented something like "Kaya bumaling sa iba kasi pinaghintay mo. It is not idealistic to make a guy wait. Next time, if you like a guy go for it."

Correct!!! That was the same thing that was running through my mind while watching the clip. I was thinking "it's pretty obvious you also like the guy (C'mon what's not to like?), you went out several times and you still asked the guy to wait for your "matamis na oo."

Snooky Serna Is Out of the Indie Film Dukot

Snooky Serna is still living up to the tag "Pagong." The actress of booted out of the movie Dukot, starring Iza Calzado and Allen Dizon, by the movie's director Joel Lamangan after Snooky showed up more than two hours later for a major and big scene at Liwasang Bonifacio.

What irked Direct Joel was Snooky's failure to apologize to the senior stars who braved the crowd and the heat of the sun to shoot the scene. It was Snooky's boyfriend who talked to the director because Snooky refused to get out of her car. All would have been forgotten if Snooky had just apologized

During lunch time, Snooky breezed in without warning to talk to Direct Joel. The actress blamed the movie's executive producer for her being late. This was the straw that broke the camel's back as Direct Joel let Snooky have it. Finally, pinaalis at sinibak ng direktor si Snooky at sinabi pa na hindi na nito gagawin ang Sagrada Familia, which would have starred Snooky Serna.

A leopard cannot change its spots. That's what Snooky Serna is. Remember the story of Snooky getting upset at Gina Alajar during the story con for the same movie? Snooky took exception to Gina's reminder not to be late in their shooting.

Can a network do a reality show revolving around a day in the life of Snooky Serna. A lot of people must be curious why Snooky is constantly late. This has been Snooky's trademark when before she became cuckoo and then suddenly recovered when she met a rich man. I'm pretty sure the definition of the word "tardy" has Snooky's picture beside it.

Why does Snooky still insists on pretending to be an actress. She doesn't suit a career that demands professionalism. Now that she's a rich man's girlfriend, she should probably concentrate on that. She's more suited to the life of a kept woman whose life revolves around sleeping late, eating, shopping, parties, then repeat the same things the following day.

RIP Douglas Quijano

The Philippine Artists Managers Inc. (PAMI) lost one of its founding members with the unexpected death of talent manager Douglas Quijano.

PAMI sent PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) the following text message:

"Our beloved DOUGLAS QUIJANO went home to His Creator this morning while in his home in Lucban. Let us pray for the eternal repose of his soul-a GOOD and KIND MAN. A CARING FRIEND TO ALL-we the PAMI grieve this big loss. A founding member and our FIRST CHAIRMAN."

Douglas was the first chairman of PAMI and considered as first among equals. The group's current president is June Torrejon, while the chairperson is Ethel Ramos.

The veteran and respected talent manager was found dead, reportedly of a stroke or heart attack on Friday (June 13) in his home in Lucban, Quezon.

Update: Rochelle Barrameda Identifies Remains of Sister Ruby Rose

On Jun 10, the two-year search for Rochelle Barrameda's sister Ruby Rose ended when her remains were recovered inside a drum sealed inside a cemented steel case at the Navotas Fish Port.

Rochelle had confirmed that the remains were her sister’s, based on the earrings and the clothes recovered. Superintendent Elma Galero of the National Police’s Crime Laboratory affirmed Rochelle’s statement and said the victim’s dental records matched Ruby Rose’s.

Authorities were able to locate the steel case through a tip from an informant, Rochelle said in Thursday’s radio interview. She added that the informant admitted to being "one of those who took part in cementing the case."

Ruby Rose's remains now lie at the Manila Memorial Park in Sucat, Parañaque, Rochelle said.

Who is the mastermind?

Asked who could be behind her sister’s killing, Rochelle pointed to Ruby Rose’s husband, Manuel Jimenez III, father-in-law, Manuel Jimenez Jr., and Manuel III’s uncle who owns the Buena Suerte Jimenez fishing company in Navotas City.

"Nagkaroon kami ng lead na ang may kagagaawan nito ay si Atty. Manuel Jimenez Jr., Manuel Jimenez III, and kasama rin dito ‘yong uncle niya na may-ari ng Buena Suerte Jimenez sa Navotas. Doon ginawa at doon din itinapon," she said.

Rochelle said her sister confessed to having marital problems and that Manuel III even threatened to kill her.

"Sinaktan siya (Ruby Rose). Sinabi na papatayin siya. Na-witness ‘yon ng anak nila," she said.

Ruby Rose then asked a local court for a temporary protection order but her bid to secure the order was dismissed, Rochelle added.

Rochelle recounted that over the last two years, the Barramedas had repeatedly asked the Jimenez family for help in locating Ruby Rose, but "they never wanted to talk to us."

The Jimenez family, through their legal counsel, denied involvement in Ruby Rose’s killing, much less having any motive behind her death.

"Walang dahilan para i-utos [There is no reason to have her killed]," said laywer Mario Aguinaldo.

Aguinaldo explained that the Jimenezes even wanted Ruby Rose alive because there is an ongoing child custody case between her and Manuel III. "We (Jimenez) are even winning the case," Aguinaldo added.
